Call for Applications: Fall 2026 CNS Visiting Fellows Program Post on 18 May 2026 by Dave Steiger May 15, 2026 Jean du Preez Now Expanding Opportunities for French and U.S. Nationals CNS Location: James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies The James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) is proud to announce a new call for applications for its internationally recognized Visiting Fellows Program for Fall 2026 — now with expanded opportunities for French and U.S. nationals. Designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in international security, the program provides intensive, interdisciplinary training for emerging and established scholars, as well as junior and mid-career professionals working in foreign ministries, government agencies, export control and regulatory bodies, journalism, research institutes, and academia. Visiting Fellows gain a comprehensive understanding of the global nonproliferation and disarmament architecture while exploring the political, legal, regional, technical, and scientific dimensions of arms control, nuclear security, and weapons of mass destruction (WMD)-related technologies. The inclusion of French and U.S. nationals in the program aims to strengthen French-U.S. cooperation in science, technology, and policy areas critical to WMD nonproliferation, arms control, and international security. Hosted in the beautiful coastal city of Monterey, the CNS Visiting Fellows Program offers a unique opportunity for participants to engage directly with leading experts, cutting-edge research, and one of the world’s foremost nonproliferation education communities. Beyond its rigorous research-based curriculum, selected Fellows may also participate in courses within the renowned Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies master’s program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. This includes the Institute’s internationally recognized semester-long Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) simulation course, which provides hands-on experience in diplomacy and multilateral negotiations. The program is offered twice annually — from February to May and from September to December — and CNS is now accepting applications for the Fall 2026 cohort. In addition to French and U.S. nationals, applicants from the Black Sea region, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia are strongly encouraged to apply by June 30, 2026. Due to funding limitations, only four (4) Fellows will be selected for Fall 2026, making this a highly competitive and prestigious opportunity. CNS will also accept letters of interest for the Spring 2027 session.
